On Tuesday I attended “Across the Atlantic: Unlocking North American Angel Capital and Networks” at Builders House in Bucharest. Jeremy Bauman, partner at Washington, DC-based New Dominion Angels, shared insights on how to approach raising money from angel investors. The event had an informal format where everyone in the room introduced themselves and had the opportunity to ask questions.

To be honest, when I first learned about the event, my impulse was to skip it. Angel investing seemed like something not for me – not right now, anyway. But after reading through all the details, my opinion changed. This was actually a great opportunity to expand my knowledge about something I might need in the future.
I don’t plan on pitching an angel investor next week or next month, but I might down the road. Gathering information now, learning what investors look for, understanding their perspective – this is an advantage that can reduce failed attempts later. It’s about being prepared when the time comes.
Beyond the presentation, I had the opportunity to meet other founders at different stages with their products. Some had significantly more traction than I currently have with RunningLog and Planaro. Seeing people with real products and real customers is a great motivator. It shows what’s achievable with limited resources and persistence.
The building continues. After launching version 2 of RunningLog on Sunday, I’m now preparing version 2 for Planaro while keeping my daily focus on marketing and promoting both apps.
